The Miners Pathway allows you to step back in time and discover the wild and heady days of the Murchison Gold Rush. The self-drive trail travels a figure eight journey through gold rush townships from Yalgoo north to Meekatharra, east to Sandstone and south to Paynes Find.

The trail reveals stories harking back to the late 1800s when gold thirsty men and women ventured to these then remote parts with dreams of striking it rich. They descended on the region by the thousand, built bustling townships, blazed roads and established hotels, schools, churches and shops.

You’ll visit sites of these once thriving townships – settlements abandoned along with their founders’ hopes and dreams. Today nothing remains at these sites but crumbling walls, forgotten artefacts and distant echoes of the laughs and cries of those who once built a life here.

You’ll also learn about the geological importance of the region, the ancient nature of the rocks, about bush tucker and early transport.

You can start your Miners Pathway journey in Yalgoo, Meekatharra, Sandstone or Paynes Find. You can join the Kingsford Smith Mail Run from Meekatharra, and the Wool Wagon Pathway by journeying to Pindar, west of Yalgoo. The Miners Pathways visits the townships of Yalgoo, Mount Magnet, Cue, Meekatharra, Sandstone and Paynes Find.
