Relive the adventures of the Gascoyne Murchison pastoral pioneers by setting out on the Wool Wagon Pathway. This self-drive journey from Pindar (near Mullewa) in the south through Gascoyne Junction and onto Exmouth in the north, retraces the history of the men and women who settled the region at the turn of the 20th century.
With interpretative signage along the trail, you’ll learn about early stock routes and transport with camels, donkeys and bullocks. You’ll see faint marks still etched in the earth where pastoralists, Afghan hawkers and itinerants once travelled down these almost forgotten outback highways. You’ll also discover Aboriginal meeting places like Bilung Pool in the Murchison, natural spectacles like the soaring Kennedy Range in the Gascoyne and scenic wonders like the dazzling shores of Exmouth.
You can start your Wool Wagon journey in Pindar in the south or from Exmouth in the north. Alternatively, access the Wool Wagon Pathway from the Gascoyne Junction by heading out from Carnarvon. You can also join the Miners Pathway by journeying east of Pindar to Yalgoo and you can access the Kingsford Smith Mail Run from Gascoyne Junction. The Wool Wagon Pathways visits the townships of Mullewa, Pindar, Murchison Settlement, Gascoyne Junction and Exmouth.
